About

The Adolphe Gutmann album Chopin's Favourite Student includes a premiere recording of Adolphe Gutmann's works for four hands and several of his solo compositions performed by Maria Gabryś-Heyke and Dmitry Ablogin.

Pieces for four hands - waltzes, nocturnes and gallops, despite their popularity in the 19th century, did not receive modern sheet music and fell into oblivion. This album brings them back to the showroom glow, referring to the atmosphere in which they were created. Gutmann performed many times in the Paris salon of Érard.

This premiere recording of a complete set of works for four hands by Adolphe Gutmann, a devoted student and friend of Fryderyk Chopin, should be noted as an event on the phonographic market.

"In general, Gutmann's work is graceful, somewhat sentimental, lyrical. [...] Gutmann's musical imagination was undoubtedly influenced by Chopin's work, mainly in terms of style and adoption of features typical of the master of texture, melody, harmony and ornamentation patterns."
- Ewa Sławińska-Dahlig
